How to Improve Your Business Facebook Page

Remember when Facebook was a small little social media platform? We used it to share pictures, write statuses, and stay connected with friends? Well, things have changed.

Facebook is now home to over 2 billion monthly active users (and counting), making this social media giant the biggest player in the game.

Facebook is not only about social networking for individuals looking to connect with friends, it’s prime real estate for your business too. You can use it to reach, attract, and win over more customers than ever before.

This sounds great, right? But in order to do this, you have to give your Facebook page a makeover to make sure it’s polished, looking good and ready to go.

Tips for How to Maximize Your Brand Reach on Facebook

These simple, yet effective tips will help you transform your business Facebook page to convert more of those searchers into paying customers. Let’s dive in.

Tip #1: Improve your “About” section

The “About” should include important information -- it should be a snapshot into your business. You can also think of it as a mini elevator pitch. Try to answer the question: Why should a customer choose my business?

Have some fun with it! This is your chance to brag a little and explain why your business is great. What makes your business stand out? Did you recently win an award? Get featured in a newspaper, magazine, or some other publication? Great, be sure to add that here.

You should also include your hours of operation, a link back to your website to direct more traffic and provide even more detailed information, as well as all relevant contact information (email, phone number, etc.).

Illinois- based VIP Maid Services has taken this advice to heart and has a robust 'about' section on their page. Not only do visitors get an idea of the services they offer, but they also get a taste for what they stand for as a company and what sets them apart from competitors. Image 2020-09-02 at 9.15.05 AM

Tip #2: Optimize for mobile

Having images, buttons, and text that is optimized for mobile is a necessity.

About 94 percent of Facebook users access Facebook via the mobile app. Your content has to be readable (and viewable) on a mobile device.

For instance, 85 percent of facebook videos are watched without sound on mobile devices, so if you have a video on your page, make sure it makes sense without audio. This could mean adding subtitles in another video program.

Tip #3: Refresh your page with recent, high-quality images

No one wants to see crooked, blurry images from 5 plus years ago. That’s not going to catch their attention. Make sure that all your images are high resolution, represent your brand, and are the correct dimensions.

For a good image cheat sheet, check out this post. Keep in mind that images display differently on mobile then they do on desktop, so make sure you are uploading images that work for both.

The images you choose to add should pop and showcase your best work, you and your employees working, and anything else that’s relevant.

Tip #4: Customize your cover photo

Remember how important choosing the perfect cover photo was? Well, it still is. Your cover photo is one of the first things a searcher sees when stumbling onto your page.

You want it to draw them in and make them want to learn more about your business. Make sure it’s a relevant, eye-popping photo that entices them to read on.

For example, Stillwater Pools in Georgia uses their facebook cover photo to show off their main product: pools. They didn't just use their logo — they were able to use the visual real estate to entice potential visitors to learn more about their pool services. The image also looks great on a mobile device.

Tip #5: Add a recognizable profile picture

I’m not talking about adding a selfie of you -- even though that might work. But instead, I’m talking about adding your logo or something else that’s easily identifiable and instantly makes searches recognize your brand.

Tip #6: Post relevant content regularly

Customers are on your Facebook page to learn more about your business and services. The content they find here has to be accurate and updated frequently.

If you post every couple of months -- or even longer -- searchers might find inaccurate, outdated information that’ll result in them choosing a competitor over you. You don’t want that to happen.

Tip #7: Add a call-to-action (CTA) button

Popular CTA's include a:

  • Call your business (provide a phone number or tap-to-call button);
  • Email your business;
  • Direct message your business;
  • Talk to sales; or
  • Link to your website.

Tip #8: Pin important posts to the top of your page

Have an important announcement? Are you running a promotion? Do you have special hours? Pin that post to the top of your Facebook page so that every searcher can see it. The pinning feature exists for a reason, you should use it.

As part of its auto loan program, Michigan-based Zeal Credit Union pinned an enticing post to the top of its page — ensuring its nearly 3,000 fans and facebook page visitors knew about it auto loan services

Tip #9: Engage with your followers

When searchers or customers engage with your Facebook page, you have to respond. This can be to comments, posts on your wall, direct messages, or whatever way they reach out.

Keep in mind that they are engaging with you for a reason, so it is your responsibility to reply in a professional and timely manner.

Tip #10: Promote your page to generate more followers

There’s no shame in promoting your Facebook page. You’ve worked hard to build it, your current and prospective customers should see it.

There are a few ways to do this. If you want to be more discreet about it, you can include it by adding a small icon to your website, Yelp page, email signature, newsletters, blogs, and wherever else you see fit. This is an easy and convenient way for customers to visit your Facebook page simply by clicking an icon.

You also have the option of being upfront and asking customers to follow you on Facebook in person, via email, text, or on the phone. It only takes a few seconds and chances are they can hop on their phone and follow your page right then and there. And let’s be honest, it never hurts to ask -- the worst they can say is no.

Follow these 10 tips and you’ll be well on your way to having an all-star Facebook business page. In just a few steps, you can give your page a complete makeover, effectively promote your brand, and reach a bigger audience than you ever thought possible.
